Student Council

Student Council has been an active group for over 8 years at Eastman Avenue Elementary. The Student Council is to engage in activities to serve as a liaison between the student body and the administration in student government.Teacher sponsors are Mrs. Camacho and Mrs. Madera. Community Rep. Rachel Jurado also sponsors the group and assists in making connections with community organizations. The Eastman Student Council is an organization that is comprised of student leaders who represent their fellow students and school. Additionally, the council seeks to foster and strengthen school spirit and pride. They sponsor student activities such as dances, Spirit Week, Red Ribbon Week. as well as sponsor and promote our School Safety program. Since Eastman has a large student body. one mission of Student Council is to create " a small school" atmosphere on a large campus to build a sense of belonging for all students. While Student Council makes the decision regarding events, all students have opportunity to participate.

Student Council is also involved in community projects that support philanthropy in and around our community. Student council studies current events and makes group decisions around projects that they feel is needed. Some of the projects include, Pajama Service Day, Thanksgiving Meal Drive, and Schools on Wheels Drive for children on Skid Row in Los Angeles. Eastman Student Council collaborates with agencies such as Healthy Start as a resource. Many of the projects come from their study of community actives from such resources as LA times and Scholastic Magazine for kids. Student Council members know that the future starts with them.
